Are you concerned about sustainability? Do you often wonder how your initiative or organization can be more sustainable and strategic?

Join us October 29th for a vibrant discussion about inspiring and embedding sustainable strategic thinking into non-profit organizations.

COVID has caused massive disruption to the world and in particularly the work of civil society, causing at the same time a larger need for its services while reducing resources to deliver these.  Join Mark Cabaj from From Here 2 There Consulting, who will share observations and insights from his development evaluation work with changemakers across Canada on COVID and what it means for the NGO community and its future. This will be followed by an opportunity to engage peers in discussion to debrief Mark's talk.

This mixer is a complement to the NGO Sustainability Champions Workshop: a co-led workshop series for non-profits to:

  • Build capacity of staff to develop and deliver a sustainability action plan, based on the award-winning Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development pioneers by The Natural Step.
  • Develop an action plan for participating non-profit organizations to improve their sustainability performance.

SPEAKER

Mark Cabaj is President of the consulting company From Here 2 There and an Associate of Tamarack - An Institute for Community Engagement. Mark has first-hand knowledge of using evaluation as a policy maker, philanthropist, and activist, and has played a big role in promoting the merging practice of developmental evaluation in Canada.

Mark is currently focused on how diverse organizations and communities work together to tackle complex issues, on social innovation as a "sub-scene" of community change work, and on strategic learning and evaluation. While studying the Solidarity movement in Krakow, Poland, in mid-1989, Mark experienced a variety of tumultuous events that signalled the end of communism in Eastern Europe. He stayed to experience the rebirth of the region and worked as an Investment Advisor in Poland's Foreign Investment Agency, the Foreign Assistance Coordinator for Grants in the new Ministry of Privatization, and the Mission Coordinator for the creation of the United Nation
s Development Program's first regional economic development initiative in Eastern Europe.

This opportunity is being offered as part of the NGO Sustainability Champions Workshop Series hosted by The Natural Step Canada in partnership with Edmonton Community of Voluntary Organizations and Edmonton Community Foundation.
