Two months on from the provincial election, Edmonton non-profit boards are gathering to collectively plan for the future.

Board to Board is an opportunity to bring together members of all non-profit boards to network, address challenges and create opportunities for collective action. This June, we invite you to join this discussion led by a panel of subject matter experts and explore what the current UCP government policies may mean for the non-profit sector. This is an opportunity  to gather with other non-profit leaders and discuss how you can lead your organization in this new political climate.

Why you should be there:

  • Learn from subject matter experts on how the provincial government's campaign and platform will affect non-profit organizations.

  • Connect with board leaders from a diverse array of non-profits and exchange insight and ideas with your board peers.

  • Light refreshments are included, meaning you don't need to go home to make dinner!

Agenda

4:30 pm - Doors Open

5:00 pm - Panel Presentation & discussion

6:00 pm - Networking & refreshments

About the Speakers

BRONTE VALK is a Senior Associate at Alberta Counsel. After graduating from the University of Alberta with a Political Science degree, Bronte pursued her passion for politics by working on the campaigns of numerous progressive political candidates. This experience combined with her in-depth knowledge of Alberta’s political affairs drew her into advocacy work. Bronte has worked inside the constituency offices of NDP MLA’s and for the past two years has been advocating for a host of nonprofit organizations and industry associations at a government relations firm in Edmonton. Some of her current nonprofit clients are the Alberta Association of Childcare Operators, Boyle Street Community Services, and the Alberta Teachers Association.

YONATHAN SUMAMO has more than eight years of experience in communications and public relations consulting. Having worked in several provincial ministries with the Public Affairs Bureau and at the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, he is a skilled crisis communications and strategic planning advisor. During his time with the Public Affairs Bureau, Yonathan dealt with a number of high-profile public relation issues and crises, including working in the Emergency Operations Centre during the High River floods. In the Legislature, Yonathan has served as a press secretary and most recently, as a senior communications consultant with the Progressive Conservative Caucus.

As a former journalist working in both print and radio in a number of different communities, Yonathan has tremendous amounts of experience in messaging to targeted audiences in an engaging and strategic manner.
